Amplify Client Story: Melissa Phillips
Name: Melissa Phillips
Business: Leadership support for the gaming industry
Website: https://www.gamesleadership.com/
Problem: Delivering the same content 1:1 with no clear way to scale or sell it authentically
Result: Launched her group program, grew a non-profit alongside it, and built a sustainable delivery model
"I genuinely believe in what we’re doing. I can see the results coming through and I’m really proud of it."
Before working together…
Melissa helps leaders in the gaming industry grow in a way that’s grounded, human, and actually sustainable - a pretty rare thing in an industry that’s often the opposite.
When we first spoke, she was running a busy consultancy. The work itself was going well. The model? Not so much.
Her 1:1 calendar was full. She was delivering the same content again and again, repeating the same frameworks with every client. She knew there was demand for something bigger, but building and selling a group program felt overwhelming, especially the marketing part.
As she put it:
“I find the marketing side really gross. I didn’t want to take one of those courses and come out the other side doing the same thing to my clients.”
The hardest part wasn’t the content - it was the visibility
Melissa had been sitting on this idea for a while. She knew what she wanted to build, but putting it out into the world felt exposing.
“I was so nervous about sharing what I do because it is personal. It feels very personal and vulnerable to share some of those things.”
Perfectionism kicked in. She wanted the program to be great, which made it feel high-stakes. She kept putting it off, waiting for it to feel "ready."
Pricing was another sticking point. She was completely comfortable talking about money in her corporate consulting work, but charging for something that felt like her work brought up a different set of blocks.
“When I’m consulting or working for a company, I’m really good at talking about money. But when it came to my own business and myself, I had all of these kind of hangups and blockers about it.”
What we worked on inside Amplify
Inside Amplify, we worked through these blocks piece by piece.
She built out the structure for the program itself.
We worked on pricing and messaging that felt aligned.
And we created a launch plan that allowed her to get the program into the world without it feeling forced or salesy.
As Melissa says:
“The way that you set up your course, it kind of talks through piece by piece and I was able to wrestle with some of those demons.”
The outcome: A sustainable business model — and space to breathe
Since launching, Melissa has:
Taken her group program live and enrolled multiple cohorts
Built a non-profit alongside it to expand the reach of her work
Served over 300 leaders in the games industry across her consulting, group, and non-profit work
Created a delivery model that allows her to grow her impact without burning herself out
“We’ve tested it, launched it and it’s now doing its thing. I genuinely believe in what we’re doing. I can see the results coming through and I’m really proud of it.”
Right now, her focus isn’t on the next big thing - it’s on continuing to strengthen what she’s built.
“I want to try and have that little moment of sustainability and peace as a business, which I think actually that’s what a lot of us are striving for.”
What surprised her about Amplify
While Melissa joined Amplify for the structure, what made the biggest difference was having the space to work through the internal pieces alongside it.
“I loved it. I feel very connected with what you say and what you do. You matched my energy. I trusted you on both levels, the human side and the business side. That was important.”
She also found huge value in the group space itself:
“I really enjoyed speaking to other people doing similar things, but different. That’s been one of the most helpful things for me. I now encourage my own clients to do that too.”
